Dr Gareth is originally from Hawkes Bay and qualified from Massey University, Palmerston North in 1999. Gareth spent 7 years working in London in companion animal general and emergency practice before returning to Auckland to head the team at Ponsonby Veterinary Centre.
Gareth enjoys all aspects of small animal internal medicine and his involvement in emergency practice in London has given him a keen interest in this area of veterinary care. His other areas of interest are dentistry and imaging.
Gareth is a keen horseman. He spent many years pursuing his interest in eventing and hopes that one day he will find the time to jump back into the saddle. He also enjoys swimming, going to the gym and running.
Dr James is originally from the UK (England) and is qualified in veterinary medicine from University College Dublin after graduating from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor Degree in Zoology and a Masters of Science in Animal Welfare and Law. James started working in London in a vet practice that worked alongside the RSPCA and the Metropolitan Police dogs. He then moved on to a larger company which included emergency out of hours care within a 24-hour veterinary hospital.
James moved to New Zealand to join the Ponsonby team as a Veterinary Surgeon in July 2019 and has a keen interest in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
James enjoys travelling, kayaking, off-road driving and camping in his free time. He can definitely taste the difference between Coca-Cola and Pepsi, has a published dissertation on imaging chickens and Antarctica is the only continent he hasn’t been to... yet!
James' family home is made up of 1 briard, 1 mallinois, 2 Australian Kelpies, 1 Australian shepherd, 2 domestic short haired cats (22 years old!), 6 chickens, fish and reptiles. He has experience in breeding briards. Since arriving in New Zealand he has since adopted a stray cat called Matilda.
Cecilia is a 2014 graduate of Massey University and instead of returning home to the States, she fell in love with New Zealand and has made it her home. After graduation, Cecilia practiced in Wellington and just recently relocated to Auckland.
Her interest in veterinary medicine has been a lifelong daydream. Because she was so allergic to all animals, especially cats, her parents limited her interaction with anything that made her break out into hives. Her mother once told her when she was an adult she could play with as many cats as she wanted. And now she's made a career out of it.
