Meet our new vets - Dr James and Dr Kevin

Dr James - Veterinary Surgeon

Dr James is originally from the UK (England) and is qualified in veterinary medicine from University College Dublin after graduating from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor Degree in Zoology and a Masters of Science in Animal Welfare and Law.  James started working in London in a vet practice that worked alongside the RSPCA and the Metropolitan Police dogs. He then moved on to a larger company which included emergency out of hours care within a 24-hour veterinary hospital.

James moved to New Zealand to join the Ponsonby team as a Veterinary Surgeon in July 2019 to further his interest in surgery and take on more advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.

James enjoys travelling, kayaking, off-road driving and camping in his free time, he can defiantly taste the difference between Coca-Cola and Pepsi and has a published dissertation on imaging chickens and Antarctica is the only continent he hasn’t been to... yet!

James' family home is made up of 1 briard, 1 mallinois, 2 Australian Kelpies, 1 Australian shepherd, 2 domestic short haired cats (22 years old!), 6 chickens, fish and reptiles.

Dr Kevin - Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Kevin graduated vet school in 2015 at Massey University Palmerston North. He had always wanted to be a vet since his bunny rabbit imaginatively named Jumpers became ill when he was a kid. Kevin grew up in North Shore Devonport and that will always be home to him, his mum is Canadian and is dad is English.

When Kevin graduated, he moved to the tropics in Cairns QLD to enjoy the life of diving and hiking. He had been working with companion animals as well as the odd snake or lizards there for the last 4 years. But he soon started to miss the Pohutukawa trees and NZ summers, so he has since moved back home to be with friends and family and has joined the family of Ponsonby Vets as a Veterinary Surgeon.

Kevin is a D or E or possibly even Z class celebrity having recently starred on NZ’s Heartbreak Island. His favourite spot to be is in the middle of NZ summer on Tawharanui Beach attempting to surf or playing overly competitive ultimate Frisbee.
